The Chiefs torched the value chart for Walter Rouse, taking him 71 spots sooner than anyone had him slotted.
If one pick saves this weekend, it is Magee. They punted on tight end, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. They went 5 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
Value over need was the throughline, for better and worse.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but tight end.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 32 they get a matchup problem out wide at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Payton Wilson in No. 64 is fair value, right on his grade. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Dominick Puni at the 95th overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Darius Robinson slipping to slot 133 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It fills a real need, too.
Kamal Hadden at the 158th pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Jaylen Wright in pick No. 173. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They reached into another round for Walter Rouse, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They robbed the room for Jordan Magee here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
