There is conviction, and then there is this. The Chiefs took Keilan Robinson a full 137 picks ahead of where the board had him, an overdraft steep enough that it colors the whole weekend. No fireworks, but a solid B-.
For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain. Landing Jones that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. On the needs board they went 6 of 8, with wide receiver the one that mattered most.
Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 31 they get an anchor for the offensive line, reach and all. Exactly the need they had to hit.
By-the-book stuff, Brenden Rice at No. 63 squarely in line with his ranking. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Darius Robinson at the Round 3 slot is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Ben Sinnott at the 131st overall pick is a conviction pick that outran the value. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Brennan Jackson at pick 161 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Michael Barrett in pick No. 171 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A need, and now a little less of one.
Christian Jones at Round 5, Pick 39 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They talked themselves into Keilan Robinson at the 209th overall pick, and the board did not agree. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Value with a capital V on Matthew Jones in pick No. 252, a genuine coup. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
