You can hear the double-takes from here. The Chiefs took Jordan James at the Round 7 slot, roughly 48 spots before his name belonged.
The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. The tight end spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
That is an edge rusher worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. The Dillon Radunz deal gives the class an established piece to lean on.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but tight end.
Pick-by-Pick
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Wyatt Milum. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Ashton Gillotte well ahead of where he belonged. The roster fit checks out.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Dylan Fairchild in Round 3, Pick 5. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They reached into another round for Julian Fleming, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Cobee Bryant in No. 128 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.

Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Shemar Turner at the 160th overall pick is the proof. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They did well to land Tony Grimes in No. 193, just ahead of his grade. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
They reached a country mile for Jordan James at pick 224, and the board is aghast. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
