Call it belief, call it a gut call, but Miles Frazier at Round 5, Pick 35 is 64 spots clear of consensus, and that is the headline. More right than wrong, and a B- to match.
Getting Muhammad where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through quarterback. Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
Trading back for volume was the quiet throughline of their weekend.
Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 26 they get a No. 1 receiver. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
A straight-up fair deal on Byron Murphy II at No. 67, value and slot in agreement. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
TreVeyon Henderson at slot 89 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The roster fit checks out.
They liked Gabriel Murphy enough to skip the value, taking him in the 102nd overall pick. It fills a real need, too.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Theo Johnson. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Darius Robinson at the 141st pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They talked themselves into Michael Barrett at No. 167, and the board did not agree. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They reached into another round for Miles Frazier, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Dwight McGlothern in pick No. 175 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
A wild overpay on Walter Rouse in pick 204, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Jabbar Muhammad at the 247th pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
