Somebody in the Round 5 slot was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Chiefs sat still while Johnny Wilson, the No. 128 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. The bottom line is a respectable B-.
They are betting Sundell proves the room right and everyone else wrong. They will regret leaving tight end for another day if the season turns on it.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Xavier Worthy well ahead of where he belonged. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
The board had cheaper options than Xavier Legette at the 64th pick, and it noticed. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Brandon Dorlus slipping to Round 3, Pick 32 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They reached a country mile for Justin Eboigbe at the 131st overall pick, and the board is aghast. A need, and now a little less of one.
Mason McCormick at pick No. 139 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Walter Rouse in slot 158 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Johnny Wilson in the Round 5 slot should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Jalen Sundell this early at pick 252. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Anim Dankwah in Round 7, Pick 33, miles early. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
