The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Vikings spent their marquee pick on Jayden Daniels, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback. They moved the roster forward and banked a B for it.
Reaching for Bertrand left real value on the table behind him. If one pick saves this weekend, it is Smith.
The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a long-term answer under center at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
T'Vondre Sweat at Round 2, Pick 10 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The roster fit checks out.
They went early on Cedric Gray in the 108th pick, and the value did not follow. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
By-the-book stuff, Ben Sinnott at pick No. 129 squarely in line with his ranking. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Mason McCormick at the 157th overall pick. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A clean, defensible pick in slot 167 with a little surplus value in Walter Rouse. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Nice patience on Tykee Smith, who had no business lasting to pick 177. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They left a pile of value on the table to take JD Bertrand this early at No. 188. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
