For all the names on the card, the loudest question went unanswered. The Chiefs walked out of the weekend still thin at quarterback, a hole that has a way of deciding seasons.
The Jones pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Jackson.
Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 5 of 8 of the wish list covered.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 32nd overall pick they get a weapon on the perimeter at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Patrick Paul in pick 64 is fair value, right on his grade. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Khyree Jackson in Round 3, Pick 32 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Theo Johnson at pick No. 132 is money in the bank, a tight end taken below his worth. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
By-the-book stuff, Walter Rouse at the Round 5 slot squarely in line with his ranking. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Daijun Edwards at No. 179 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They jumped the gun on Michael Barrett, taking him earlier than his grade liked. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A premium they did not need to pay, Matthew Jones a notch or two before his time. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
