The tape said wait; the Chiefs did not. Tyler Baron went at slot 160, a good 27 picks before the board was ready.
That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. A modest surplus at the table, banked quietly. Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 6 of 8 of the wish list covered.
Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 32nd overall pick they get a go-to option on the outside, though they paid up to get him. The biggest hole, addressed.
Fair-plus on Josh Conerly Jr., a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Oscar Delp at pick No. 69 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A premium they did not need to pay, Wyatt Milum a notch or two before his time. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
No edge and no loss on Jonah Coleman in the Round 4 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. It fills a real need, too.
Tyler Baron at Round 5, Pick 32 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
No drama and no debate, Theo Wease Jr. went about where he belonged in pick No. 193. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
By-the-book stuff, Thor Griffith at slot 224 squarely in line with his ranking. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
