The board owed the Jets one, and it paid up: Jadarian Price, the No. 61 name on the board, sitting there at pick 103 like a gift left on the doorstep. The sum of the weekend is a deserved A-.
The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. They will need Taylor to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it.
Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. It is not that Styles is a bad player; it is that the Jets had louder needs to answer first.
Trust the process, because this time the process plainly worked.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 12 they get a matchup problem out wide. A clean fit for the roster.
In pick No. 16 they get the heartbeat of the defense, and a steal at that. More want than need.
They bypassed pressing needs at edge rusher and safety to take Sonny Styles, a linebacker that was not the priority.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Peter Woods in pick 33. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
The board had Brandon Cisse higher than No. 44, and the cornerback fell to them anyway. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Circle this one: Jadarian Price at the Round 4 slot is a fall that decides a draft. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Parker Brailsford in the 140th overall pick. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They paid up for Taylen Green at the 179th pick when waiting would have done the job. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A big swing on Logan Taylor at No. 228, well ahead of any board in the building. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They jumped the gun on Josh Cuevas, taking him earlier than his grade liked. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
