The Cowboys did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Dillon Gabriel fell into the Round 5 slot. The bottom line is a respectable B.
They punted on tight end, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. If Sanders pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about.
Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 6 of 8 of the wish list covered. They came away with juice, if not much beef up front.
Good work on the whole, with tight end the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 12 they get a home-run threat at receiver at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
They will replay Nick Emmanwori at the 44th overall pick for years; that is how good the value is. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
They read the board right and Dylan Sampson was the payoff at the 76th pick. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They robbed the room for Jake Majors here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Dillon Gabriel in No. 172 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and RJ Harvey at Round 5, Pick 35 is the proof. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Cobee Bryant slid further than he should have, and pick 190 is lovely value for the cornerback. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Nice patience on Jack Kiser, who had no business lasting to slot 211. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They reached into another round for Shilo Sanders, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
