Nobody else had Billy Schrauth anywhere near the Round 2 slot. The 49ers did, by 61 spots, and that gap is the whole story.
The Lane value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. They will regret leaving interior defensive lineman for another day if the season turns on it.
Good work on the whole, with interior defensive lineman the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 27th overall pick they get a plug-and-play piece up front. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
They talked themselves into Billy Schrauth at pick No. 58, and the board did not agree. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Nicholas Singleton in the Round 4 slot should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Taking Ja'Kobi Lane in slot 133 is close to grand larceny; a wide receiver that good had no business lasting this long. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Will Lee III at No. 138 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A minor need, but a need all the same.
The board had Parker Brailsford higher than pick 139, and the offensive lineman fell to them anyway. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
