The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Patriots watched Colston Loveland slide 30 picks past his grade and did not hesitate. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.
They are betting Nelson proves the room right and everyone else wrong. The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 3 they get a matchup problem out wide at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Tate Ratledge at slot 40 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Colston Loveland in Round 3, Pick 14 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Jack Nelson at the Round 3 slot is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
