The Patriots spent the weekend waiting on one name, and it fell: Wyatt Milum, the No. 13 name on the board, in No. 235. It does the job without flash, and the B+ reflects it.
The phones were where this weekend was really won. Leaving wide receiver unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
The imported veterans give this class a floor the draft picks could not on their own. Edge rusher was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
A running back of that caliber at the 70th pick is the definition of value, full stop. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They barely believed it either: Walter Nolen still on the board at the 80th overall pick. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Somehow Josaiah Stewart was still sitting there in pick No. 97, and they pounced on premier edge rusher value. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They will replay Harold Fannin Jr. at slot 106 for years; that is how good the value is. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Jahdae Barron at Round 5, Pick 3 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
T.J. Sanders at the Round 7 slot is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Trey Amos at pick 223 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
A top-tier offensive lineman at a bargain, Wyatt Milum in No. 235, plain and simple. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
