There was a run on nobody at that position, and the Patriots started one anyway for Barryn Sorrell, 106 picks ahead of schedule.
However the rest shakes out, Thornton Jr. at that price is a win they earned. The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. The interior defensive lineman hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
The imported veterans give this class a floor the draft picks could not on their own.
Good work on the whole, with interior defensive lineman the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 14th overall pick they get an every-down engine for the run game, outstanding value to boot.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Tyler Booker. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Aireontae Ersery at No. 45 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Jonah Savaiinaea in the Round 3 slot is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A need, and now a little less of one.
A tidy bit of business in pick 77, where Azareye'h Thomas graded well above the range. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Savion Williams at pick No. 105 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A wide receiver of that caliber at pick No. 219 is the definition of value, full stop. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Barryn Sorrell at No. 222 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
