Call it belief, call it a gut call, but Braelon Allen at the Round 3 slot is 29 spots clear of consensus, and that is the headline. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B.
They punted on interior defensive lineman, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. They went 6 of 9 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for. They squeezed a little extra out of every move they made.
Frank Clark gives the group a proven body among the projects.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 6 they get an anchor for the offensive line. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
They took J.J. McCarthy at par in the 39th overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They paid sticker price for Jonah Elliss in pick No. 47, and that is fine. The roster fit checks out.
Braelon Allen in pick 76 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Tommy Eichenberg in the 107th pick is fair value, right on his grade. A minor itch, scratched.
A market-rate safety, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jahdae Barron. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
No edge and no loss on Dallin Holker in slot 126; it is a wash and a sensible one. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Layden Robinson at Round 5, Pick 7 is a conviction pick that outran the value. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A reach on Darius Muasau in No. 185; the board had better options right there. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
A clean, defensible pick in pick No. 243 with a little surplus value in Cody Schrader. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
