Dallas Cowboys

More right than wrong for the Cowboys, and a B- to prove it.

There is conviction, and then there is this. The Cowboys took Jamaree Caldwell a full 121 picks ahead of where the board had him, an overdraft steep enough that it colors the whole weekend.

The Mukuba value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. A whole weekend of picks and cornerback is somehow still a want.

Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.

In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.14 · Pick 14 · DJ Campbell · OG · rank 44
In Round 1, Pick 14 they get a plug-and-play piece up front, a steep price for the projection. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
R2.12 · Pick 44 · Earnest Greene III · OT · rank 76
They talked themselves into Earnest Greene III at slot 44, and the board did not agree. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R3.13 · Pick 77 · Nick Emmanwori · S · rank 11
The board fumbled Nick Emmanwori all the way to pick 77, and they scooped it up. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
R4.12 · Pick 113 · Deontae Lawson · LB · rank 89
A linebacker of that caliber at the 113th overall pick is the definition of value, full stop. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R4.15 · Pick 116 · Nazir Stackhouse · DL · rank 167
Nazir Stackhouse at the Round 4 slot is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R5.13 · Pick 151 · Jamaree Caldwell · DL · rank 272
Jamaree Caldwell at pick No. 151 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R5.14 · Pick 152 · Raheim Sanders · RB · rank 132
They robbed the room for Raheim Sanders here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R5.31 · Pick 169 · Ollie Gordon II · RB · rank 142
Steal is underselling it; Ollie Gordon II at pick 169 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It fills a real need, too.
R5.32 · Pick 170 · Taylen Green · QB · rank 241
This one needs a full-page explanation: Taylen Green in Round 5, Pick 32, miles early. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R5.34 · Pick 172 · Andrew Mukuba · S · rank 80
Taking Andrew Mukuba in the Round 5 slot is close to grand larceny; a safety that good had no business lasting this long. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
R6.13 · Pick 188 · Kyren Lacy · WR · rank 237
Kyren Lacy in the 188th pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R6.34 · Pick 209 · Gunnar Helm · TE · rank 181
They barely believed it either: Gunnar Helm still on the board at slot 209. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
