The trade table was where it all came apart. The Eagles shipped out far more than they hauled back, and no amount of spin dresses up the bill. Put together, it is a D.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher. They banked enough surplus on Dixon to cover a lot of smaller sins. They left with cornerback solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and edge rusher is still a hole.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 22 they get a potential shutdown corner. The biggest hole, addressed.
A straight-up fair deal on Xavier Worthy at No. 50, value and slot in agreement. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Edgerrin Cooper at the Round 2 slot is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
No edge and no loss on Tyler Davis in Round 4, Pick 20; it is a wash and a sensible one. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
By-the-book stuff, Tykee Smith at the 161st overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Jaheim Bell in the 171st pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It fills a real need, too.
A market-rate running back, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Cody Schrader. A need, and now a little less of one.
No drama and no debate, Trente Jones went about where he belonged in pick No. 188. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint at the 210th pick. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Johnny Dixon in the 225th overall pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Somehow Sheridan Jones was still sitting there in the Round 7 slot, and they pounced on premier cornerback value. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Jalen Sundell at Round 7, Pick 33 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
