You can hear the double-takes from here. The Dolphins took Sedrick Van Pran at No. 63, roughly 27 spots before his name belonged. They moved the roster forward and banked a B- for it.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up. The Richardson steal is the beam this whole class leans on.
A small leak at the table, if not a fatal one.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 31st pick they get a true top target, and a steal at that. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Sedrick Van Pran this early at slot 63. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Mohamed Kamara in pick No. 94, miles early. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They reached a country mile for Dallin Holker at the Round 4 slot, and the board is aghast. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Decamerion Richardson slid further than he should have, and the 184th overall pick is lovely value for the cornerback. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
They took Nathan Thomas at par in Round 6, Pick 23, which is nothing to complain about. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A wild overpay on Frank Gore Jr. in pick No. 241, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
