Chicago Bears

A respectable, level-headed haul for the Bears: B.

Call it belief, call it a gut call, but Mason Reiger at pick 89 is 59 spots clear of consensus, and that is the headline.

They covered a lot of ground and still skipped offensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up. However the rest shakes out, Hill Jr. at that price is a win they earned.

In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.29 · Pick 29 · Jordyn Tyson · WR · rank 21
In No. 29 they get a difference-maker at receiver, outstanding value to boot. A real need, handled.
R2.25 · Pick 57 · Anthony Hill Jr. · LB · rank 38
Taking Anthony Hill Jr. in pick No. 57 is close to grand larceny; a linebacker that good had no business lasting this long. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R3.1 · Pick 65 · Christen Miller · DL · rank 59
They did well to land Christen Miller in Round 3, Pick 1, just ahead of his grade. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R3.10 · Pick 74 · Mike Washington Jr. · RB · rank 72
No edge and no loss on Mike Washington Jr. in the Round 3 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R3.25 · Pick 89 · Mason Reiger · LB-EDGE · rank 148
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Mason Reiger well ahead of where he belonged. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R4.29 · Pick 129 · Max Llewellyn · DE-EDGE · rank 155
Value said wait; Max Llewellyn in slot 129 says they were not listening. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R5.3 · Pick 143 · Jakobe Thomas · S · rank 141
A market-rate safety, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jakobe Thomas. A minor need, but a need all the same.
R6.2 · Pick 183 · VJ Payne · S · rank 200
A premium they did not need to pay, VJ Payne a notch or two before his time. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
R7.23 · Pick 239 · Thaddeus Dixon · CB · rank 228
Value with a capital V on Thaddeus Dixon in the Round 7 slot, a genuine coup. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R7.25 · Pick 241 · Jack Kelly · LB · rank 264
Jack Kelly in Round 7, Pick 25 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
