Thirty-one other rooms let Javon Foster slide, and the Chargers were the ones holding the card at pick 181. Highway robbery. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.
They are betting Barner proves the room right and everyone else wrong. They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 5 they get a No. 1 receiver. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
By-the-book stuff, Jordan Morgan at slot 37 squarely in line with his ranking. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They jumped the gun on Blake Corum, taking him earlier than his grade liked. It fills a real need, too.
Zak Zinter in pick No. 105 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The roster fit checks out.
They paid up for Beaux Limmer at No. 110 when waiting would have done the job. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They left a pile of value on the table to take AJ Barner this early at the 140th overall pick. A need, and now a little less of one.
Javon Foster in Round 6, Pick 6 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Somehow Isaiah Williams was still sitting there in the Round 7 slot, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Steal is underselling it; Trente Jones at pick 253 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
