Somebody in pick 183 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Chargers sat still while Braelon Allen, the No. 155 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. It does the job without flash, and the B reflects it.
Leaving interior defensive lineman unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. They squeezed a little extra out of every move they made.
The roster is better shaped than it was, with edge rusher chief among the fixes. The skill positions did well by the weekend.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 5 they get a No. 1 receiver. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Value with a capital V on Amarius Mims in the 37th pick, a genuine coup. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Chris Braswell slipping to No. 69 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
No drama and no debate, Cooper Beebe went about where he belonged in the Round 3 slot. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They will replay Mike Sainristil at pick No. 105 for years; that is how good the value is. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Kris Abrams-Draine at the 142nd overall pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
The board fumbled Braelon Allen all the way to pick 183, and they scooped it up. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Jalen Green is a better player than slot 226 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
