For all the boxes ticked, the Patriots skipped the loudest one: edge rusher is exactly as bare as it was. No fireworks, but a solid B.
Jackson falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes.
Quantity was the play, for better or worse.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 14 they get a difference-maker at receiver at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
A straight-up fair deal on Tyler Booker at No. 38, value and slot in agreement. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Derrick Harmon at pick 40 is the proof. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Aireontae Ersery in the 45th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Isaiah Bond slid further than he should have, and the Round 3 slot is lovely value for the wide receiver. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They robbed the room for Donovan Jackson here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They let Jake Majors come to them and pounced at the Round 4 slot. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
