The Eagles did not so much draft DeMonte Capehart as overpay for him, 32 picks clear of his grade. It sets an uneasy tone for the weekend. No fireworks, but a solid B+.
They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it. They went 6 of 9 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for. The hoard sets up next April more than it helps this September.
The weekend tilted hard toward the defense.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a potential shutdown corner. The biggest hole, addressed.
A clean, defensible pick in pick 54 with a little surplus value in Jermaine Burton. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A straight-up fair deal on Zak Zinter at the 97th overall pick, value and slot in agreement. It fills a real need, too.
Good price on Jaylen Wright in Round 5, Pick 27, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Kitan Oladapo at No. 172 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. The roster fit checks out.
They took Jaylan Ford at par in slot 178, which is nothing to complain about. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
They left a pile of value on the table to take DeMonte Capehart this early at the 243rd overall pick. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
