The Cowboys clearly saw something nobody else did in Jam Miller, taking him 60 picks ahead of his grade. The board is not convinced.
The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. On value alone, Wheatley makes the weekend a net positive. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped offensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the offensive lineman spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 12 they get an island corner. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
In the 20th overall pick they get a coverage-and-run second-level piece at a price that makes it sweeter. The biggest hole, addressed.
In No. 26 they get a downhill thumper at linebacker at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Taking Zakee Wheatley in pick 112 is close to grand larceny; a safety that good had no business lasting this long. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
A reach on Tanner Koziol in Round 5, Pick 12; the board had better options right there. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A big swing on Zavion Thomas at the 180th pick, well ahead of any board in the building. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A real head-scratcher, Jam Miller in pick 218 is miles ahead of his ranking. The roster fit checks out.
