Call it larceny. A.J. Haulcy sat on the board until pick No. 87, and the Dolphins did not need to be asked twice. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B-.
For all the activity, linebacker went untouched, which is hard to explain. A small leak at the table, if not a fatal one. Job largely done: quarterback settled and 7 of 8 of the wish list covered.
They trusted the board more than the depth chart.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but linebacker.
Pick-by-Pick
No drama and no debate, Kenyon Sadiq went about where he belonged in the 20th overall pick. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
In the Round 1 slot they get a load in the middle, outstanding value to boot. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Denzel Boston at slot 43 is money in the bank, a wide receiver taken below his worth. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Nice patience on LT Overton, who had no business lasting to the 75th pick. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A.J. Haulcy at pick No. 87 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Steal is underselling it; Keionte Scott at No. 91 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Jake Golday in Round 3, Pick 30 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They robbed the room for Connor Lew here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They let Justin Joly come to them and pounced at Round 4, Pick 30. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Hezekiah Masses in the 151st pick. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
The board had Dametrious Crownover higher than the 152nd overall pick, and the offensive lineman fell to them anyway. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Kevin Coleman Jr. in pick 168. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
You do not let a quarterback like Drew Allar reach pick No. 177 and blink. They did not. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Tanner Koziol in No. 180 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Kaelon Black at the Round 7 slot is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It fills a real need, too.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, TJ Hall at slot 227. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
