Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Dolphins were there to profit. Jadarian Price, the No. 69 name on the board, should have been long gone before slot 106.
The Ponds pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at quarterback and linebacker. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through quarterback. Reiger has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
A tidy bit of business in slot 28, where Avieon Terrell graded well above the range. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
A slide stopped in No. 30, with Kenyon Sadiq worth more than the price. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Chris Brazzell II at Round 2, Pick 11 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They will replay Emmanuel McNeil-Warren at the Round 3 slot for years; that is how good the value is. A minor itch, scratched.
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went cornerback with D'Angelo Ponds while clear needs at quarterback and linebacker sat open.
Somehow Jake Slaughter was still sitting there in the 87th pick, and they pounced on premier offensive lineman value. A need, and now a little less of one.
Christen Miller at the 90th overall pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Jake Golday in pick 94 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Jadarian Price at pick No. 106 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A reach on Mason Reiger in Round 4, Pick 30; the board had better options right there. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A straight-up fair deal on Mikail Kamara at the 151st overall pick, value and slot in agreement. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Circle this one: Jaeden Roberts at pick 167 is a fall that decides a draft. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They robbed the room for Eric McAlister here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They barely believed it either: TJ Hall still on the board at the 238th pick. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
