Call it larceny. Jake Golday sat on the board until slot 130, and the Dolphins did not need to be asked twice. More right than wrong, and a B to match.
The linebacker hole is the one line item this class does not answer. They left with quarterback solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off. Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.
Quantity was the play, for better or worse.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 18 they get a weapon on the perimeter at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Olaivavega Ioane at the 30th overall pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Chris Johnson in No. 43 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
R Mason Thomas is a better player than the Round 2 slot suggests; smart patience, rewarded. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
The board fumbled Emmanuel McNeil-Warren all the way to slot 75, and they scooped it up. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
They robbed the room for Eli Stowers here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A interior defensive lineman of that caliber at Round 3, Pick 26 is the definition of value, full stop. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Taking Jake Slaughter in the 94th pick is close to grand larceny; an offensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. A need, and now a little less of one.
Jake Golday at the Round 4 slot is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Malik Benson at pick No. 151 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the wide receiver. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Kage Casey at slot 163 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A top-tier quarterback at a bargain, Drew Allar in the 196th overall pick, plain and simple. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
J'Mari Taylor in Round 6, Pick 26 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Value with a capital V on TJ Hall in the 227th pick, a genuine coup. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
