You could see the war room lean forward. Josh Cameron at slot 227 is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did. Good, not great, and the B says as much.
Spending an early pick on cornerback with running back open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to. They punted on running back, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. It is a bet on later, and a defensible one for a team playing the long game.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 30 they get a plug-and-play piece up front at a price that makes it sweeter. A real need, handled.
CJ Allen at pick 47 is money in the bank, a linebacker taken below his worth. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Nice patience on Christen Miller, who had no business lasting to pick No. 49. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Gennings Dunker at the 75th overall pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They barely believed it either: A.J. Haulcy still on the board at the Round 3 slot. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Daylen Everette in No. 90 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Malachi Fields in slot 94 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Somehow Jake Golday was still sitting there in the 97th pick, and they pounced on premier edge rusher value. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Julian Neal adds a cornerback and leaves running back untouched.
Value with a capital V on Jack Endries in the Round 4 slot, a genuine coup. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Eli Raridon in pick No. 151 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
CJ Daniels at the 157th pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Zane Durant at the 181st overall pick nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Taylen Green slid further than he should have, and No. 196 is lovely value for the quarterback. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They robbed the room for Josh Cameron here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
