The board owed the Dolphins one, and it paid up: Christen Miller, the No. 37 name on the board, sitting there at the Round 3 slot like a gift left on the doorstep. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B+.
Reaching for Tucker left real value on the table behind him. The imported veterans give this class a floor the draft picks could not on their own. The future picks help the war chest more than the win-now roster.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a potential shutdown corner, and a steal at that.
In the 30th pick they get a security blanket over the middle at a price that makes it sweeter. A real need, handled.
They will replay Arvell Reese at slot 40 for years; that is how good the value is. A need, and now a little less of one.
Chris Johnson in pick 52 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
A interior defensive lineman of that caliber at No. 84 is the definition of value, full stop. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Eli Stowers at Round 3, Pick 23 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. The roster fit checks out.
Germie Bernard in pick No. 90 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Somehow Zachariah Branch was still sitting there in the 92nd overall pick, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
You do not let a running back like Jonah Coleman reach slot 94 and blink. They did not. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Circle this one: Logan Jones at pick 109 is a fall that decides a draft. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
No edge and no loss on Bishop Fitzgerald in Round 4, Pick 18; it is a wash and a sensible one. It adds depth where they could use a little.
They did well to land Ted Hurst in the 119th pick, just ahead of his grade. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Will Lee III in No. 128. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
Harold Perkins Jr. at the Round 4 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A wild overpay on Nadame Tucker in pick No. 151, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A clean, defensible pick in the 157th overall pick with a little surplus value in Kage Casey. It fills a real need, too.
They paid sticker price for Febechi Nwaiwu in the 169th overall pick, and that is fine. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Zane Durant at the Round 5 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They took DJ Campbell at par in the 180th pick, which is nothing to complain about. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Sawyer Robertson in slot 201 is fair value, right on his grade. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Noah Whittington at pick 227 is the proof. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They robbed the room for Aiden Fisher here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
