Somebody in the Round 4 slot was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Titans sat still while Jonah Coleman, the No. 67 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. Some smart calls, some head-scratchers, and a C in the wash.
The trade table is where this weekend went wrong. The quarterback hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
Gusta has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. They left with offensive lineman solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
Hit on Arvell Reese and the swing picks, and this ages a lot better than it grades today.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 18 they get a downhill thumper at linebacker at a price that makes it sweeter.
They will replay Carnell Tate at the 35th overall pick for years; that is how good the value is. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Value with a capital V on Christen Miller in pick No. 52, a genuine coup. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Circle this one: D'Angelo Ponds at the 66th pick is a fall that decides a draft. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
They robbed the room for Jake Golday here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Steal is underselling it; Zachariah Branch at slot 101 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It fills a real need, too.
Connor Lew at Round 4, Pick 12 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Jonah Coleman at the Round 4 slot is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Davison Igbinosun in pick 142. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
Oscar Delp at No. 144 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They let Dametrious Crownover come to them and pounced at the 152nd pick. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They reached a country mile for David Gusta at slot 177, and the board is aghast. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Taking Eric Rivers in the Round 6 slot is close to grand larceny; a wide receiver that good had no business lasting this long. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Domani Jackson in pick No. 194 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
A top-tier safety at a bargain, Dalton Johnson in Round 7, Pick 9, plain and simple. A minor itch, scratched.
