Tennessee Titans

The Titans robbed the room for Johnson. Final grade: B-.

Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Chris Johnson got past him. The Titans do not have to explain a thing at pick No. 86. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B-.

They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down. The Johnson pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at edge rusher and quarterback.

For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.22 · Pick 22 · Kenyon Sadiq · TE · rank 19
In No. 22 they get a red-zone target to build around. A clean fit for the roster.
R2.3 · Pick 35 · Jermod McCoy · CB · rank 18
Jermod McCoy is a better player than pick No. 35 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A minor need, but a need all the same.
R2.23 · Pick 55 · Kayden McDonald · DT · rank 20
Circle this one: Kayden McDonald at Round 2, Pick 23 is a fall that decides a draft. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R3.2 · Pick 66 · CJ Allen · LB · rank 31
They will replay CJ Allen at the 66th pick for years; that is how good the value is. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R3.22 · Pick 86 · Chris Johnson · CB · rank 32
A curious use of pick 86. Edge rusher and quarterback needed the pick; a cornerback in Chris Johnson did not.
R4.1 · Pick 101 · Germie Bernard · WR · rank 58
Steal is underselling it; Germie Bernard at slot 101 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R4.23 · Pick 123 · Jadarian Price · RB · rank 69
Jadarian Price in the 123rd overall pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R5.2 · Pick 142 · Jack Endries · TE · rank 121
They barely believed it either: Jack Endries still on the board at the Round 5 slot. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R5.4 · Pick 144 · Dametrious Crownover · OT · rank 143
Dametrious Crownover in the Round 5 slot is fair value, right on his grade. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R6.3 · Pick 184 · Febechi Nwaiwu · OG · rank 173
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Febechi Nwaiwu at Round 6, Pick 3 is the proof. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R6.13 · Pick 194 · Aaron Anderson · WR · rank 175
Aaron Anderson at the 194th overall pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R7.9 · Pick 225 · Matt Gulbin · C · rank 181
Matt Gulbin in the 225th pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
