Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Jake Slaughter got past him. The Titans do not have to explain a thing at No. 119. It washes out to a C+, no better and no worse.
They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back. The Moore reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade.
The future picks help the war chest more than the win-now roster.
Hit on Arvell Reese and the swing picks, and this ages a lot better than it grades today.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 20 they get a lockdown presence outside at a price that makes it sweeter.
In No. 26 they get the heartbeat of the defense, outstanding value to boot. A real need, handled.
Kenyon Sadiq in the Round 2 slot is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. The roster fit checks out.
Emmanuel Pregnon in slot 66 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Max Iheanachor in pick No. 84 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A cornerback of that caliber at the 101st pick is the definition of value, full stop. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Somehow Germie Bernard was still sitting there in Round 4, Pick 4, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They robbed the room for Jake Golday here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Jake Slaughter at the Round 4 slot is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A top-tier wide receiver at a bargain, Ted Hurst in Round 4, Pick 26, plain and simple. A need, and now a little less of one.
No drama and no debate, Jakobe Thomas went about where he belonged in the 142nd pick. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Chris McClellan in pick 143 is fair value, right on his grade. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
By-the-book stuff, Mason Reiger at slot 144 squarely in line with his ranking. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Trey Moore at No. 152 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A straight-up fair deal on Drew Allar at the 158th overall pick, value and slot in agreement. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
No edge and no loss on Demond Claiborne in pick No. 160; it is a wash and a sensible one. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Seth McGowan in pick 183 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
The board had Ar'maj Reed-Adams higher than pick No. 184, and the offensive lineman fell to them anyway. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Cole Payton at the 194th overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Harrison Wallace III in the Round 7 slot. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Jadon Canady at slot 225 is the proof. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
