For all the names on the card, the loudest question went unanswered. The Packers walked out of the weekend still thin at quarterback, a hole that has a way of deciding seasons.
The cost of the Bortolini reach is exactly the players who went right after him. Sainristil falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch.
Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 25 they get a cornerstone up front. A real need, handled.
Junior Colson in No. 41 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
They did well to land Adisa Isaac in the 58th overall pick, just ahead of his grade. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A tidy bit of business in the Round 3 slot, where Mike Sainristil graded well above the range. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Renardo Green at pick No. 91 is the proof. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Jaylin Simpson at slot 126 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Value said wait; Tanor Bortolini in pick 169 says they were not listening. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They paid up for Garret Greenfield at the 202nd pick when waiting would have done the job. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Nathaniel Watson at pick 219 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the linebacker. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
Kimani Vidal at No. 245 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They read the board right and Jalen Sundell was the payoff at pick No. 255. It fills a real need, too.
