The tape said wait; the Packers did not. Maema Njongmeta went at pick 251, a good 78 picks before the board was ready.
However the rest shakes out, Jones at that price is a win they earned. They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 25 they get a cornerstone up front at a price that makes it sweeter. A real need, handled.
Keon Coleman in pick 41 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
You do not let an offensive lineman like Jordan Morgan reach pick No. 58 and blink. They did not. It fills a real need, too.
They barely believed it either: Chris Braswell still on the board at Round 3, Pick 25. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Circle this one: Tyler Nubin at the Round 3 slot is a fall that decides a draft. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Value with a capital V on Jarvis Brownlee Jr. in the 127th overall pick, a genuine coup. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Dylan Laube at pick 178 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
The board fumbled Jarrian Jones all the way to slot 204, and they scooped it up. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A top-tier running back at a bargain, Isaiah Davis in No. 216, plain and simple. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Nothing to complain about; Trevin Wallace went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A minor itch, scratched.
A safety of that caliber at the Round 7 slot is the definition of value, full stop. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
A wild overpay on Maema Njongmeta in the 251st overall pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
