The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Patriots watched Malachi Moore slide 84 picks past his grade and did not hesitate. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up. Edge rusher is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 4 they get a problem off the edge. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Aireontae Ersery at the Round 2 slot is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Jayden Higgins at the 69th pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Omarr Norman-Lott at pick No. 77 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They took Anthony Belton at par in the 106th overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. It fills a real need, too.
A top-tier linebacker at a bargain, Kobe King in No. 144, plain and simple. It adds depth where they could use a little.
A tidy bit of business in Round 7, Pick 1, where Kyle Monangai graded well above the range. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Malachi Moore at slot 220 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Alijah Huzzie at the Round 7 slot is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A minor need, but a need all the same.
