Thirty-one other rooms let Jaylen Reed slide, and the Patriots were the ones holding the card at slot 238. Highway robbery. The bottom line is a respectable B-.
For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain. They will need Harris to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
By-the-book stuff, Will Campbell at slot 4 squarely in line with his ranking. It fills a real need, too.
Tre Harris in Round 2, Pick 6 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
No drama and no debate, Jayden Higgins went about where he belonged in the Round 3 slot. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
No edge and no loss on Ozzy Trapilo in the 77th pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Deone Walker at No. 106 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Denzel Burke in pick 144 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
A tight end of that caliber at pick No. 217 is the definition of value, full stop. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A tidy bit of business in the 220th overall pick, where Kyle Monangai graded well above the range. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Jaylen Reed in the 238th pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
