Somebody in the Round 5 slot was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Patriots sat still while Savion Williams, the No. 90 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B-.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up. Every board in the league had Jackson lower, and that gap is the story. They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 4th pick they get a building block for the line. A real need, handled.
Armand Membou in Round 2, Pick 6 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. The roster fit checks out.
They paid sticker price for Jayden Higgins in the 69th overall pick, and that is fine. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
TreVeyon Henderson at pick No. 77 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Jaylin Noel at slot 106 is the proof. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Savion Williams at the Round 5 slot is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
By-the-book stuff, Alijah Huzzie at No. 217 squarely in line with his ranking. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
They paid a round early for Cam Jackson in pick 220, more than the board wanted. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Jordan Hancock in the 238th overall pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
