The Drew Kendall pick is the one that will follow the Patriots into the fall. They took him 56 spots ahead of his grade, and the board is not shy about saying so.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Johnson. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped safety, which is a strange place to end up.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick-by-Pick
Abdul Carter in pick No. 4 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They paid sticker price for Tyler Booker in No. 38, and that is fine. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Kaleb Johnson at Round 3, Pick 5 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A need, and now a little less of one.
No drama and no debate, Ozzy Trapilo went about where he belonged in slot 77. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Nice patience on Darius Alexander, who had no business lasting to the Round 4 slot. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They talked themselves into Kyle Williams at the 144th overall pick, and the board did not agree. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Shemar James at pick No. 217 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Kyle Monangai at pick 220 is the proof. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Drew Kendall at the 238th overall pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It fills a real need, too.
