The rest of the league had time to spare on Drew Kendall; the Patriots did not wait, grabbing him 56 spots ahead at No. 238. A dependable weekend that grades out a B-.
The Golden value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
No edge and no loss on Will Campbell in the 4th overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Somehow Matthew Golden was still sitting there in pick No. 38, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Alfred Collins at the Round 3 slot is the proof. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Ozzy Trapilo at the 77th pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They paid up for Terrance Ferguson at pick 106 when waiting would have done the job. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Good price on Malachi Moore in slot 144, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A clean, defensible pick in pick No. 217 with a little surplus value in Kyle Monangai. A need, and now a little less of one.
Taking Jay Higgins in the Round 7 slot is close to grand larceny; a linebacker that good had no business lasting this long. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
A wild overpay on Drew Kendall in No. 238, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
