The Bears did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Malachi Fields fell into the 129th pick.
The running back hole is the one line item this class does not answer. They will need Foster to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. They squeezed a little extra out of every move they made.
The roster is better shaped than it was, with edge rusher chief among the fixes.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 25 they get a centerfielder for the defense, outstanding value to boot.
A top-tier linebacker at a bargain, Sonny Styles in the 60th overall pick, plain and simple. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
The board had Gabe Jacas higher than the 62nd pick, and the edge rusher fell to them anyway. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Steal is underselling it; Christen Miller at slot 89 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Malachi Fields in pick 129 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Bryce Foster at the Round 7 slot is a conviction pick that outran the value. The roster fit checks out.
Circle this one: Tyren Montgomery at pick No. 241 is a fall that decides a draft. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Andre Fuller at No. 256 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
