Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Bears were there to profit. Sonny Styles, the No. 21 name on the board, should have been long gone before pick 57. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B.
The running back hole is the one line item this class does not answer. Edge rusher is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the running back spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
Caleb Banks at the 47th overall pick nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They barely believed it either: Sonny Styles still on the board at the 57th pick. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
The board had Gabe Jacas higher than slot 60, and the edge rusher fell to them anyway. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Connor Lew at Round 3, Pick 25 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
The board fumbled Zakee Wheatley all the way to pick 113, and they scooped it up. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Malik Muhammad at No. 129 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Zavion Thomas in the Round 7 slot. It fills a real need, too.
By-the-book stuff, Fa'alili Fa'amoe at pick No. 241 squarely in line with his ranking. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
