Call it larceny. Isaiah Davis sat on the board until No. 201, and the Packers did not need to be asked twice. They moved the roster forward and banked a B- for it.
Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. With quarterback, wide receiver and other spots unsolved, spending premium capital on safety is the choice that costs them.
The Bishop reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a ballhawk on the outside at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
They paid sticker price for Chris Braswell in pick 41, and that is fine. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
By-the-book stuff, Jeremiah Trotter Jr. at pick No. 58 squarely in line with his ranking. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
They let Cooper Beebe come to them and pounced at Round 3, Pick 25. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Cole Bishop in slot 91, miles early. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
The needs board was loud and they turned it down, spending No. 125 on James Williams with quarterback, wide receiver and other spots unsolved.
A quiet steal in the 168th pick: Mason McCormick for less than the market said. A need, and now a little less of one.
A top-tier running back at a bargain, Isaiah Davis in the 201st overall pick, plain and simple. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Michael Barrett in the 219th pick is fair value, right on his grade. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
