Somebody in pick 203 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Commanders sat still while Cody Simon, the No. 121 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium.
That wide receiver hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. Every board in the league had Dellinger lower, and that gap is the story.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 29 they get a downhill hitter at safety, and a steal at that. More want than need.
They will replay Tyler Warren at pick 61 for years; that is how good the value is. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Somehow Dylan Sampson was still sitting there in the 79th pick, and they pounced on premier running back value. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
You do not let a tight end like Mason Taylor reach No. 146 and blink. They did not. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Cody Simon at the 203rd overall pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
They liked Garrett Dellinger enough to skip the value, taking him in slot 236. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Jonah Monheim in pick No. 247 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
