Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Eagles were there to profit. Javon Bullard, the No. 66 name on the board, should have been long gone before No. 137. It nets out to a B, which feels about right.
The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. Job largely done: cornerback settled and 6 of 9 of the wish list covered.
Value over need was the throughline, for better and worse.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 22 they get a No. 1 receiver, outstanding value to boot. The biggest hole, addressed.
They barely believed it either: Ennis Rakestraw Jr. still on the board at the Round 2 slot. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Patrick Paul at Round 2, Pick 22 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Payton Wilson at slot 97 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Javon Bullard in No. 137 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Jaylin Simpson at the 163rd pick. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Joe Milton III in pick 172 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Nice patience on Cody Schrader, who had no business lasting to the 178th overall pick. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Circle this one: Omar Speights at No. 243 is a fall that decides a draft. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
