Whoever sat across the table from the Chiefs should ask for a receipt. They cleaned the room out, prying loose far more value than they gave up, and it was the quiet MVP of their weekend. Good, not great, and the B+ says as much.
With quarterback unsolved, spending premium capital on cornerback is the choice that costs them. The Ford pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. The quarterback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
Nice patience on Tyler Guyton, who had no business lasting to pick No. 36. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Patrick Paul in Round 2, Pick 32 is fair value, right on his grade. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A premium they did not need to pay, Malik Washington a notch or two before his time. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They went early on Christian Mahogany in the 86th pick, and the value did not follow. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Kris Abrams-Draine at pick 87 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
A surprising call. With quarterback still to address, they spent the Round 3 slot on Khyree Jackson, a cornerback they were not short of.
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Javon Solomon adds an OLB-EDGE and leaves quarterback untouched.
A reach for Maason Smith in slot 100; a little patience would have been rewarded. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Ben Sinnott at the Round 4 slot is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Mohamed Kamara at the 127th overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They paid sticker price for Dylan Laube in pick No. 156, and that is fine. A need, and now a little less of one.
A real head-scratcher, Jaylan Ford in Round 6, Pick 12 is miles ahead of his ranking. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
No drama and no debate, Jalen Coker went about where he belonged in slot 252. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
