The Chiefs spent the weekend waiting on one name, and it fell: Roger Rosengarten, the No. 135 name on the board, in Round 5, Pick 37.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through quarterback. On the needs board they went 4 of 8, with wide receiver the one that mattered most. The offense got the lion's share of the attention.
The phones were busy but the ledger stayed level.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 32 they get a blindside protector, outstanding value to boot. The biggest hole, addressed.
A quiet steal in pick 64: Xavier Worthy for less than the market said. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Dominick Puni in pick No. 95 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A straight-up fair deal on Tommy Eichenberg at the 144th overall pick, value and slot in agreement. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Somehow Jarrian Jones was still sitting there in slot 159, and they pounced on premier cornerback value. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
They will replay Johnny Wilson at No. 160 for years; that is how good the value is. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Circle this one: Roger Rosengarten at the Round 5 slot is a fall that decides a draft. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A tidy little value on Brevyn Spann-Ford in the 252nd pick, a step better than break-even. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
