Boards are made to be trusted, and the Chiefs shredded theirs for Frank Gore Jr.. He came off 43 spots early, and the room will hear about it.
For all the activity, tight end went untouched, which is hard to explain. Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Sweat.
On the needs board they went 7 of 8, with wide receiver the one that mattered most.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but tight end.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 32nd pick they get a No. 1 receiver. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Steal is underselling it; T'Vondre Sweat at pick No. 64 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They jumped the gun on Johnny Wilson, taking him earlier than his grade liked. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Mohamed Kamara at the 114th overall pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It fills a real need, too.
A premium they did not need to pay, Christian Jones a notch or two before his time. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
By-the-book stuff, Roger Rosengarten at Round 4, Pick 29 squarely in line with his ranking. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Value with a capital V on Elijah Jones in slot 132, a genuine coup. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
No drama and no debate, Tommy Eichenberg went about where he belonged in Round 5, Pick 4. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Tyrone Tracy Jr. in pick 159 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A wild overpay on Frank Gore Jr. in the 183rd pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. The roster fit checks out.
Sam Hartman in the 252nd overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
