The Cowboys did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Kevin Winston Jr. fell into slot 150.
They punted on wide receiver, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. The roster is better shaped than it was, with cornerback chief among the fixes. Nearly every premium pick went to that side of the ball.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 12th pick they get a load in the middle, outstanding value to boot. A real need, handled.
Nice patience on Omarion Hampton, who had no business lasting to the 44th overall pick. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A straight-up fair deal on Darien Porter at No. 76, value and slot in agreement. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
The board fumbled Kevin Winston Jr. all the way to the Round 5 slot, and they scooped it up. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Logan Brown in pick No. 170 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They barely believed it either: Bhayshul Tuten still on the board at Round 5, Pick 33. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Cobee Bryant in slot 174 is fair value, right on his grade. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
