When a board-topper like Ollie Gordon II slides to the Round 7 slot, you do not overthink it, and the Dolphins did not. The bottom line is a respectable B+.
Every board in the league had Mertz lower, and that gap is the story. They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own.
For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick-by-Pick
A tidy bit of business in slot 17, where Mason Graham graded well above the range. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They robbed the room for Malaki Starks here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Harold Fannin Jr. at the Round 2 slot. A need, and now a little less of one.
Barrett Carter in pick 98 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Elic Ayomanor at Round 3, Pick 37 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the wide receiver. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Circle this one: Jake Majors at pick No. 115 is a fall that decides a draft. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Deontae Lawson in the 149th pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They barely believed it either: Nicholas Singleton still on the board at No. 156. The roster fit checks out.
You do not let a linebacker like Kobe King reach Round 6, Pick 14 and blink. They did not. It fills a real need, too.
A conviction pick on DJ Campbell at the Round 6 slot that the board grades a round light. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Jordan Hancock at pick No. 224 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
Graham Mertz at the 231st pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A top-tier running back at a bargain, Ollie Gordon II in No. 251, plain and simple. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
