If confidence were a draft strategy, the Dolphins would have aced it. Damonic Williams at pick 227 is 123 spots clear of where he belonged.
The Corleone pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. The wide receiver spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. A modest surplus at the table, banked quietly.
The Dolphins clearly valued win-now help, adding bodies who have done it before.
Good work on the whole, with wide receiver the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
A top-tier interior defensive lineman at a bargain, Dontay Corleone in Round 3, Pick 26, plain and simple. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Drew Allar at the 91st overall pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Nicholas Singleton in the 92nd pick is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Harold Perkins Jr. in slot 94, miles early. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Value said wait; Parker Brailsford in pick No. 95 says they were not listening. A need, and now a little less of one.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Jude Bowry. The roster fit checks out.
They paid up for J.C. Davis at the 125th overall pick when waiting would have done the job. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Value with a capital V on Davison Igbinosun in the Round 4 slot, a genuine coup. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Jaeden Roberts in the 131st pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Isaiah World in No. 151 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A market-rate cornerback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Domani Jackson. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
Jeremiah Wright in pick 212 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Damonic Williams at pick No. 227 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They robbed the room for Thaddeus Dixon here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
They talked themselves into Wesley Williams at slot 241, and the board did not agree. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
